I've made art for as long as I can remember.

As a child, I always drew people with pig-like noses and experimented with watercolor techniques.
The more art I saw, the more I wanted to explore those possibilities.
Doodling in class, coming home to draw for hours in my room, and AC Moore art projects were how I spent much of my time though junior high.
In high school, I chose to take pretty much every art class available in ceramics, photography, painting/drawing, and woodwork.

It seemed like the natural thing to do next was to go to college and pursue my passion.
I took all the fundamental visual art courses, watercolor, all of the ceramics courses available.
I busted my ass, and earned my Associates in Visual Arts!
During my last year in community college, I considered how I would make enough money to do the things I want to do in life.
I decided to try a basic accounting course to see if that could be the way to go.
It came pretty easily and a bachelor's in accounting could open many doors in the business world for me.

That same year, I applied to business school and got in!
Pretty much all of the required gen. ed. courses were completed through my associates degree, so I mostly had semesters packed with business courses.
The style of teaching, long commute, extensive assignments, and commitment I had to make to this new degree caused me to put my art to the side.
I would come home exhausted from work and school, eat, do homework, and go to sleep.
After a while, I didn't feel like myself anymore.
I just felt drained all the time.
Here and there, I would draw something, but they were isolated occasions.

Last semester I took a museum studies course just to get back in touch with the art world i missed so much.
It was so refreshing.
The museum studies course was heavily discussion based and it sort of combined my business courses and art/historic institutions.
Taking that course was one of the best decisions I made during my accounting studies.
Now that I have officially completed my bachelor's in accounting, I am on the full time job hunt.

So, in order to keep art present in my life, I'm going to make pre-New Year's resolutions.
  1. Spend at least 3 hours a week making art
  2. Complete 4 art projects by April 1, 2017
  3. Take more photographs with my actual camera
